Artist Statement

My work acknowledges the effects of addiction by my own accounts in dealing with an addict. I observed the physical deterioration addiction can have on the body and most unfortunately the mind. I emphasize components of the body affected by substance abuse, along with objects I’ve come to associate with their addiction. Deconstructed limbs show the self-inflicted damage caused by bodily neglect and poor general health and wellbeing. Faces in a fractured state of disarray represent the effects on the mind that impact personality. Observing addictive behavior has shown me the weakness in humanity; I see the worst in people. This realization has shaped my own personality and with these experiences I’ve come to create through the means of catharsis.

The significance of my work is to characterize an ongoing epidemic that has no bias towards race, religion, sexual orientation, or social class.
