International Artist Day

International Artist Day was founded by Chris MacClure, a Canadian artist who specializes in “Romantic Realism.” He created this day to bring recognition to the art world, and to celebrate all the ways that artists bring their own unique view to life. It is a day when we honor the contribution artists are making to society.

So, how does one celebrate artists in San Antonio?

Honor artists by supporting the local art community. In a city that takes pride in an ever-growing art scene, San Antonio currently has over 50 active art spaces* that range from artist-run spaces to commercial galleries and curatorial collectives. Such amazing establishments have opened their doors to a variety of local, national, and international artists. Sign up for UNFILTERED Weekly to receive weekly updates on what’s happening in San Antonio’s contemporary art scene.

You could also buy that painting that’s been haunting you for the last month. With all the art in San Antonio, there is no way you haven’t laid eyes on a print or sculpture that is a must for your art collection. The Blue Star Contemporary’s MOSAIC Student Artist Program features student exhibitions and provide them the opportunity to sell their work at incredible prices. Check them out right next to Blue Star Contemporary on your next First Friday at Blue Star Arts Complex.

Presa House Gallery provides emerging and mid-career artists a place to experiment freely with innovative and transformative ideas based on an artistic vision. Clamp Light Studios and Gallery supports local artists and offers the opportunity to purchase your favorite piece of art through payment plans.

Lastly, let this day inspire you! Today can be your excuse to finally get back to your studio and make some magic happen. If you don’t have access to a studio, don’t let that stop you. Get your creative juices flowing and turn your living room into your personal art studio. Don’t forget to snap a picture, share on instagram, and tag us (@unfilteredsa) for a chance to have your creation featured!
