Artist Statement

A linguist all my life, I am now learning a new language, the language of Art.  I currently paint with acrylics using quick, spontaneous brush strokes sometimes adding paper, fabric, ground river rock and applying stencils or found objects to express my emotions and ideas.  I use small rollers and favor the pallet knife which quickens my gestures and produces strong, unconstrained paint strokes. I carefully prepare my surfaces with gesso and modeling paste, or other material, sometimes with the work in mind, to build-up texture so the canvas start waking up to the painting it is about to become.  I love the interactions between colors and their complements. I am mostly a self-taught artist but have attended the classes of several national, international and local artists.  My work trends toward abstraction and expressionism.  I admire the work of Marc Chagall, Paul Cezanne, Maurice de Vlaminck, and Nicolas de Staël.

I have exhibited in San Antonio as a member of the Genlileschi Aegis Gallery Association (http://www.gagaart.org).
