Super Official Round IV

In February, co-curators Mark Anthony Martinez and John Paul bring their new experimental pop up gallery, FAKE Gallery, to The Presa House Backyard. This event marks the curatorial debut of Sealia Montalvo, FAKE’s inaugural artist-in-residence. Opening on First Friday, February 7th at 6 p.m., the pop-up’s Super Official Round IV includes art from Steven Perez, Bygoe Zubiate, Lulu Castillo, Fer Quezada, JP Taylor, Catherine Isham, Sealia Montalvo, and Leonardo Arteaga as well as live sounds by local musicians. Keeping with the mission of FAKE Gallery, this month’s featured artists come from all walks of experience and levels of training. Audiences can expect to see new works by Steven Perez, who uses traditional mediums to depict mythos within the depths of his own masculine drawing style. Lulu Castillo, an artist usually known for her ceramics, has switched mediums as a challenge for this exhibit, featuring still life drawings and digital prints. Additionally, the pop-up will feature emerging artist JP Taylor’s ethereal digital portraits for her second time showing with FAKE.

Sealia Montalvo is a native San Antonian who has been involved in the art scene from a young age, with notable experiences at Blue Star Contemporary, the Smithsonian Latino Center’s Young Ambassador Program, and the Mellon Summer Academy at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. Her colorful work explores themes of nostalgia and identity and she is now coming full circle in her dawning career as a curator.

More updates and information will be announced on FAKE’s instagram page, @fakegallerysatx.
