Santikos Art in the Garden Opening Reception

Santikos Art in the Garden at the San Antonio Botanical Garden presents the work of a young emerging Mexican artist, Alejandro Martin, AKA “Otto.” Six of Otto’s five-foot sculptures will be exhibited at the Garden from January 2019 through January 2020. Guests are invited to the exhibit opening at the Garden on January 31, 2019 from 5:30pm – 7:30pm. The opening is free and open to the public.

Based in Mexico City, Otto’s metal sculptures are informed by digital symbols of his generation. Bold, larger-than-life hashtags feature prominently in his works alongside asterisks and block figures that seem to emerge from a real life Minecraft© game. Otto studied at the Lumen School and has developed projects at the Art Institute of Chicago, and has collaborated with musical artist BEZESIE to create the cover art for their newest album, The Lights. Of his sculpture, he says that his art lives in a world made and seen in lines.

Santikos Art in the Garden is supported by a grant from the John L. Santikos Charitable Foundation, a fund of the San Antonio Area Foundation, the Russell Hill Rogers Fund for the Arts, and in partnership with Art Legacy and Gomez Vasquez International.
