Optimistic Formations by Kat Shevchenko
Rubio Gallery South is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new works by San Antonio based artist Kat Shevchenko entitled “Optimistic Formations”. Known for her surreal narrative painting style, Shevchenko creates perplexing imagery with a meticulous process of layering oil glazes over handmade egg tempera emulsion. In Shevchenko’s latest works, the journey from darkness to light is examined, an alchemic bridge from despair to hope implanted in each piece. Subjects are depicted in different moments of realization, with beautiful expressions set amid chaotic vistas, raw brush strokes expressing the underlying emotion
“Throughout the creation process, I sought to free myself from too much over analyzing and embrace the delicious terror of rediscovering the expressive dance of the sublime and chaotic elements of symbolic imagery.” – Kat
“Optimistic Formations” on exhibit through December 28, 2018. The artist in attendance during opening reception, Friday, December 7, 2018 from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m.
