Film Screening: The Ghost Army
In conjunction with the exhibition Steve Parker: “War Tuba Recital,” Presa House gallery presents “The Ghost Army,” an extraordinary WWII documentary about the U.S. 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, a tactical deception unit made up of 1,100 soldiers hand-picked from art schools, advertising agencies and other creative institutions including Bill Blass, Ellsworth Kelly, Arthur Singer, and Art Kane. Through the use of elaborate ruses like inflatable dummy tanks, fake aircraft’s, and sound effects they created a deceptive battlefield to fool the enemy into believing the unit was upwards of a two-division 30,000-man force. Their story was kept secret for more than 50 years after the war’s end, and elements of it remain classified to this day. (approx 70 mins)
The film which premiered on PBS in 2013, is directed, produced and written by award winning filmmaker, and New York Times bestselling author Rick Beyer, and was the winner of 2014 CINE Golden Eagle award.
