Esperanza Honors Día de Los Muertos

The Esperanza invites the San Antonio community to join us in honoring our dearly departed familia in our annual Día de los Muertos observance

We invite community members to send us scanned copies of photos of their beloved family members and friends to add to the altar—especially those they wish to remember in 2020, when so many have died due to the pandemic. The community ofrenda will be on exhibit until Sunday, November 8, 2020. Everyone is invited to stop by and visit this outdoor ofrenda while practicing social distance and wearing masks. The observance of Día de los Muertos will also include scheduled activities including virtual demonstrations on the construction of Día de Muertos dioramas, the making of masks and how to set up altares.
This year’s observance of Día de los Muertos is more important than ever as it is imperative that we, as a community, are able to hold space for and process the grieving and great loss that we have experienced during COVID-19, especially on the Westside of San Antonio. Día de los Muertos gives us an opportunity to come together around the universal experience of death and create meaning through tragedy and loss. If you are interested in building your own altar or helping us build altars for the Museo del Westside’s Women Activists’ Remembered or the COVID-19 victims, please call 210.228.0201 and leave a message or email esperanza@esperanzacenter.org
